Hello all, I wanted to talk about this becuase one I got involved recently and made me wonder about this and two how I can help other people in this situation. First of all, what is 9/11? Well 9/11 were terrorist attacks on the U.S. where planes were used to attack key points of interest. 4 aircraft were hijacked. 2 of them were Boeing 767-200's that were flown into the WTC(later that fell into pieces of ruble) the other 2 were Boeing 757-200 which one hit the Pentagon and one in Pennsylvania (which was not known what was the target). All together 3,000+ people were killed. Second of all, what happened to me? Well apparently I was in my 3rd period class and was showing videos I created on my channel; one of them is this Dancing Kid dances to Windows XP | Skyblock Forums and the other one is a video about a kid getting hit by a yoga ball and then 9/11 happens. Before you comment please know that I HAD a warning before the video played urging people who are offended not to watch it AND I asked in person if it was ok if they can see it. Anyway, I showed it to a bunch of people, which they loved it. However during 5th period I got called up to the office to the assistant principal, and later realized that someone told the teacher (not that it was offensive) about this funny video (I believe). All in all, I told the assistant principal I never had any intention of harming anybody. So I took down the video. Overall Thrid of all, are 9/11 jokes good or bad? In my opinion they are both (mostly bad). Yes they are bad, I 100% understand it and know that it is a terrible event in our history; I've come across some people in my life who were changed because of this. However there are jokes on the internet about this, which tbh some are funny, some are not and just complet bull****. So what does this mean to you and how can I help you in the future? You are free to create jokes with 9/11 BUT you must be aware that there are some people who are offended by these jokes. It is your responsibility that you warn them verbally and when the video plays. In this case I did warn them and put a warning (about 5-7 seconds long). However if you do come across a person who doesn't want to see it, DON'T SHOW IT PLEASE IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE and say I am sorry for your loss. Thats all I wanted to say guys. I am so sorry if it is a long post but I had to send a message across. Thanks and have a great day guys
Also to point out, if anyone wants to see that yoga ball hitting the kid video I'll send it BUT you must agree that you are responsible if you do watch it and it isn't my responsibility if anything happens cause I WARNED YOU AND YOU CHOSE TO WATCH IT. Its like saying you agreed to be part of a stunt move that involves a car at your school, which will get you into trouble and will cost you, then blaming me for letting you joining it but I claim you chose to do it not me.
For such a terrible event in history, it has built on our past events. Because of the seriousness of this situation, I would like to add a little bit of humor... [911 joke deleted by salty mod]
I personally don't think that 9/11 jokes should be taken so seriously. I mean, 9/11 happened 16 freaking years ago, nothing you do now (except researching time machines) can change what happened. Besides, 170000 people die every day, does 3000 more really make much of a difference? It's really more of a human perspective. When a large amount of people all die in one place in a short period of time, it stands out in the millions of deaths that happen every year. There are well over half a million deaths by cancer each year in America alone, the equivalent of over 200 9/11s, yet the government hasn't spent 6 trillion dollars finding a cure for cancer like they did with the Iraq war. Interpret this how you will, but I don't think that 9/11 jokes should be taken seriously when compared to other crap that happens in the world.
vfhuuuuu For once I actually agree with you... I mean seriously, everyone remembers 9/11, but half the people don't know that Hiroshima was. It's time to move on, although some of us wish those moments would last forever
It is completely inappropriate. People jumping from the 100th floor is not funny, heroic firefighters giving their lives to save others is not funny, someone being instantly obliterated is not funny, a father of three suffocating is not funny, the mother calling her husband speaking her last words before she crashes into the ground is not funny, I could go on. If you find 9/11 jokes funny you have no right to complain about any misfortune in your life when those people lost everything and your joking about it. The fact that this happened 15 years ago does not make it any less inappropriate.
just because it didnt affect you or your family doesnt mean it didnt affect others, its a touchy subject for some people so you should respect that.
We're very lucky that comedy has been a way to punch social boundaries in the face. It has made people take a good hard look at themselves, and not take themselves so seriously, too. The thing is, it was never an easy road. We laugh at funny things, it's like an uncontrollable reflex. We've all laughed at something and later said "Omg, that was horrible/you're awful", sometimes with the smile still on our faces. Some will laugh, some will get mad...but you will be judged. P.S. I don't remember names, but many famous comedians have apologized for jokes that didn't go over well. Some of their jokes ruined their own careers. However, Richard Pryor didn't care. Joan Rivers never apologized. George Carlin was arrested for saying a joke. P.P.S. Note whose names I remember.
I think certain types of jokes that are more to the racist, controversial or offensive nature should only be shared to those who you know won't be offended by them. I can see humour in certain jokes that may be offensive to others, while not meaning any disrespect or harm by finding them funny. Those jokes you think you will go to hell for finding somewhat amusing. Most jokes are not really that funny on that subject anyway. It is difficult to find humour in something tragic. And for some reason it was too easy for Harambe. So good or bad? I say both.
If you joked about 9/11 to me, I'd dislike you 100%. Due to 1000's dying. 9/11 jokes are rude, disrespectful, immature, and in NO way funny.
