I was reading a suggestion thread earlier, and I had a thought (that was unrelated to the topic) Basically...I feel like we should change the way we use the word "donor" and "donate". Let's get out the handy dandy dictionary: Donate: give (money or goods) for a good cause, for example to a charity. Purchase: acquire (something) by paying for it; buy. The essential difference between a donation and a purchase is that when donating, you are not expecting anything in return; with a purchase, you are. Now let's look at how a typical person buys a rank: they spend money, they get the rank. If they don't get the rank, they usually have to contact cyp and he gives it to them. This sounds an awful lot like a purchase and not a donation. So maybe we should rethink how we use the word donor. What do you think?
It's a donation in the sense that they are giving to the server. It is Cypriot's choice as to whether or not he gives back to them. Cypriot has chosen to give back to donators, and over time, it has become expected, to receive something in return.
Semantics. Customer is kinda long for a title, and it doesn't really roll off the tongue. Lol No support. Donor isn't technically correct, but it's not like it originated here. This method of donation with a return has existed for quite awhile.
But how many of those people were under the impression that they were getting something in return before giving money? Ultimately this discussion doesn't matter. I just like playing devil's advocate. ;P
There are many players in the history of skyblock who have donated hundreds and thousands of dollars to the server, and they didn't get as much back as they donated. It has just become customary to recieve in return.
What fun said. You chose if you wanted to donate or not. It's not buying perks. If you think this way, wouldn't 90% of the Minecraft servers have to change the donor title to customer? You get the perks because Cyp chooses too. It's not mandatory
Technically, the correct term would be customer, but its not a huge problem. Changing the prefix would cause confusion and isn't necessarily needed.
Think of it this way. I give blood donations very so often. Sometimes I'll be rewarded a cookie or something. Also being a donor to the server means you're helping keeping the server up and running.
I honestly don't see a point in doing this. This is my opinion, but it seems pointless. Also, changing something that has been there for a long time would just cause confusion, as stated previously.
True, but it's nicer than customer... It would give the donors negative connotation while donor has a positive connotation
