Is copying things illegal?

Why do some donors always think they're better than greenies? A donor claimed to have created the archery game and told me I would be banned if I copied it? Is there some rule I don't know about? If so I don't want to be in trouble. *edit* thanks for letting me know that I won't be banned.

The only way it would be illegal if there is a patent on the design, but other wise you should be fine.

A patent is a thing where you have claimed to have created, or innovated a design, to have it officially yours, and nobody else's. Without their permission, you cannot use the same design.

Edit: Also, people who take and edit small parts of a design and call them their own, stuff like that are called "knockoffs."

It's more like a government provided thing, just like the photo Entity has posted. So that, is not a patent.

Unless you're being sued for using a patent from the Apple Corporation, I don't think you'll be getting banned anytime soon lol
It's not against the rules to copy something from another player on Minecraft.

 

As long as it isn't big and hard to build, I'd say it's perfectly fine to copy. By the way, that is already out there lol. If it's big and was hard to build and has a concept and you just copy it, it's understandable that you will be considered an a*****e. By the way, I can assure you there are no patents in the normal minecraft servers including probably every server you know of.

 

I don't think it matters whether if the donator gets pissy because he or she came up with it. If it is on your island then I would say forget that idiot and build till your heart is content. That is what I would do.

 

Normally a patent is on something you can use to get money. I can safely say that this Donor did not make a patent on it. If so you would see either an all rights reserved logo or copyright © . This also will have to take place using an external source

 

Looking at your convo with her. lol, she seems a bit uptight. Just make an even better idea than hers--no need to copy from someone who's that rude to you.
