Why Don't Hoppers Work?

I like to consider myself a veteran of this server, so I remember when this update first went in and I know it was a while ago. However, I didn't however have a proper place to ask this question, not knowing about this site. Plus asking a serious question in the chat is like farting in the wind.

So now I ask, why don't they work anymore? As a person who is an redstone nutjob, who makes all of my things automated, this messes up many of my machines. I just want to know if there was a particular reason.

 

AFAIK it causes lag and there's a dupe glitch involved.

Hoppers are disabled due to duping and also because they can be used to remove items from a locketted chest
