Why can't I place water on magma?

The title explains it, please tell me if its a glitch or if it just cant be done, as i was trying to replicate an auto mob grinder that i designed myself on creative, but here it did not work, please help!
this was the one i designed

and was supposed to work by killing the mob with the magma block, then the water got the drops
but when i was trying this, after a few seconds the water made a hissing noise and it disappeared

 

Merge those into 1 post so it doesn’t look like you are farming posts

Also it was prob disabled cus if duping idk

 

I just merged them

 

just place the water on a block next to it, running in the magma block
