What happens when dry ice melts?

Dry Ice is a cold, dense white mist produced by solid carbon dioxide in air. Most people tend to ask the question, "Can you drink melted dry ice?" The thing is, dry ice is special because it doesn't melt. It goes from a solid to a gas instantly. But, if you put it inside water, it gases up and bubbles out inside of the drink. Now, Carbon Dioxide is highly toxic to breath in and dry ice is extremely cold. So, when handling dry ice, it is best to wear gloves or use tongs so you do not get frostbite.

When adding dry ice to a drink, remember to use the "food grade" dry ice. It is free of various contaminants in industrial grade material. Do not ingest any of the frozen dry ice. This can cause frostbite in your stomach!
