7. Why would you like to be unbanned? I would like to be unbanned and unmuted because I'm back from running errands and I'm in control where before I couldn't stop my account from advertising my shop or friend adding new players while I was AFK. I do not have any intentions to cause unnecessary spam aside from the shop-keeping that everyone else does, my intent was to show players that this server has personalization and to which if they logged back on and friend added me they could refer to me for help or any questions in the future incase there were no staff on.

It's hard to say, I always accept the rules but this time I was not told for a full two days of adding people and telling them if they needed help they could message me that I couldn't do that and there were many different staff on at random times. There was no rule or regulation against the function of the friends plugin disallowing me to add people. It was only until I was AFK today out and about that I was removed and muted from the server that I found out by word of mouth that I couldn't friend add people or advertise my shop. Next time if we could get access to the rules on the forums as /rules in game does not cover everything, that would be nice so there are no future infractions on Skyblock.

Hello 1ak0, I apologize for the delayed response, and hope that this appeal can be used to clear up any misunderstandings.

As I had briefly explained in the private conversation between us, your accounts were muted for repeatedly sending friend requests and shop advertisements to multiple players, automating the process so that every time a player logged onto the server, they would receive one. This was reported multiple times, and tested by staff members using alternate accounts that had never joined the server before. The one account of yours that we had to ban was only removed from the server due to the fact that removing chat permissions does not affect one's ability to use the /friends plugin.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with advertising your shop, multiple problems arise when users begin to automate this process by sending around unwanted messages to quite literally every player on the server. Multiple players reported that your accounts had been spamming them with shop advertisements and friend requests. Shortly before your accounts were muted, one of them also began spamming public chat with your advertisements as well; I had socialspy on, was receiving staff-only notifications from our chat filter system, engaging in multiple other conversations with users, and the advertisements still took up nearly half of my chat page at any given moment, during the last few minutes.

I understand that this may not have been done with malicious intent; however, we must ask that you refrain from sending out private automated advertisements/friend requests, as we have had to deal with multiple complaints, and it seems to be causing a significant disturbance within the community. Intentionally sending these targeted and unwanted private messages and/or friend requests to a large number of players, in this way, is considered a form of spam, especially when it begins to cause disruptions within the server. There is nothing wrong with offering help to new users; however, it is also important to understand that this is not the appropriate way to go about doing so.


I would also like to apologize if we gave you the impression that we did not have any issues with this behavior, due to the fact that it was not immediately dealt with. We only became aware of the significant disruptions that your automated advertisements had been causing, last night, after which we came to the decision as a team to mute all of your accounts, and ban the one that had been sending friend requests, as a mute would have been useless. In the future, please avoid this sort of behavior. Failure to do so may result in further infractions.

I will remove the mutes on your accounts once you have confirmed that they are no longer going to be sending unwanted direct messages or friend requests to players; however, this appeal will remain open for the time being, so that other staff members may provide their input on the situation if they wish, and clarify any questions you may have.

The old thread has been archived in a section that can only be viewed by staff members, which is what causes the error when trying to view the rules tab, or use the link provided in-game. We will fix that as soon as possible.

 

Thank you, as some more feedback I was testing a function that I made that would search for keywords in chat to make a helpbot so if a player were to ask how to do something the bot would reply to them. At first I tested around 20 automated private messages of advertising my shop then went back to only friend adding new players instead of sending more players private messages. I agree to everything you listed here and I won't break those rules again. Thank you for your support and quick replies, sorry if I came off rude at all I just wanted to understand further about this issue. Thank you Michael I really do appreciate it.

 

The tests that Lee asked me not to do were to look for bugs and exploits which I stopped doing. What I explained here is what most clients have already and even the Skyblock mod that Thao made has this feature that many players on here already use.

 

As it seems that no one else has anything they would like to add, I will go ahead and archive this appeal.

Before doing so, however, I would like to clarify that your accounts were not banned for just "advertising your shop", but rather for the spamming the server, during a time that you were not able to stop them yourself, because they were running on their own. We understand that this level of spam may not have been intentional, as after looking through the chat logs it seems they were being sent extremely rapidly; however, this is always a risk when you choose to experiment with automated personalized messaging, without being there to stop it if something goes wrong. To provide some context, I will paste the chat logs below, from shortly before your accounts were muted, with various staff-only notifications removed, as players would not have seen those while your bots were spamming:

To emphasize just how frequently the messages were being sent, I have also attached a screenshot of these same logs, with advertisements from your accounts being highlighted in red. Please keep in mind that the only logs removed were those showing staff-only notifications, as those are not relevant, and the players complaining about your accounts would not have been able to see them.



As you can see from the logs posted above, your accounts were sending messages extremely rapidly, which caused a significant community disruption, and forced us to mute them until you could confirm that you had your accounts back under control. These logs do not include your private messages and friend requests that were sent to quite literally every player that logged on either.

As it is not possible for us to determine if this was intentional or not, nor is it possible for you to guarantee that this will not happen again, due to the fact that you are seemingly using our server to test various new features of your client without being entirely sure what will happen, we must ask that you stop this sort of behavior.

We do understand that Trau's mod also has this feature; however, it has been thoroughly tested, and is not able to be used to spam messages like this, because it forces you to manually put in the time you want between advertisements, and also has a minimum time limit, if I am not mistaken. As stated near the beginning of this reply, you were not muted for advertising your shops; your accounts were muted for spam, until you could confirm that you had them back under control. Once you confirmed that they would no longer be sending out messages like this, I removed the restrictions on all of your accounts, when I next logged on to the server.



The team would also greatly appreciate it if you could stop complaining about this situation in chat, and making others feel as if it is against the rules to advertise in chat, or ask questions. Players are always free to ask clarifying questions about the rules or expected behavior, and there is nothing wrong with advertising your shops, as long as it does not cause any problems within the community, and does not spam the chat.

I apologize if there have been any misunderstandings. Please understand that this was not a punishment in the stereotypical sense, but rather the only option that was left for us, as you were not there yourself to handle your accounts. It also made us more aware of the fact that we need to start making it clearer that this sort of behavior is not appreciated, nor will it be tolerated, when done on such a large scale, especially when being used with clients that you are not entirely sure will even work as expected. We have received numerous complaints about your behavior, and our goal is not to just find an excuse to punish you, but rather to try to make it clear that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated if it begins to cause problems within the community.
