Hi everyone. After a few months of being inactive I rejoined eco and found myself in the most frustrating situation ever: I cant connect many times, also I lag. Destroying blocks takes an eternity and many attempts. This isnt fun playing and this isnt the skyblock I remember. Did I miss anything? What happened the past months? Is the server in decline? What can we do to help getting the performance of the server back up? Please dear owner, tell us the monthly price for hosting on better servers, we will find a way to accomplish it! Please any other eco players, share your experience.
Tps constantly drops from 20 right down to 4-7tps. Averages around 10-14tps. Disconnects constantly happen still. More so when tps drops. Last few days I've tried tobplay have just kept kicking me every time I spawn in. So I gave up. Hope today will be better.. As you say, blocks take several attempts to break, it feels as though they're coded to only break after two or three attempts of continuously holding down the mining button. Also, Often the player gets stuck in an invisible block, jittering and jumping back n forth without moving anywhere. On survival these issues are less noticeable, still there, but has a much more stable tps and less frequent disconnects. The server plays by far better than it did right after the update, though these issues continue to persist.
I’ve reported what I believe to be one major cause and that one is only going to get worse. Eco desperately needs attention. I’ve not seen it as bad as it is right now.
Crew has previously mentioned that the servers cannot be improved and is pretty maxed out to capacity for single threaded servers. And to upgrade to multi threading is potentially very unstable. So that may be the response when asking “why can’t you beef up the server”. Also there may have been a different connectivity issue today for many people across all servers unrelated to the servers performance stats.
Yeah, the eco tps is horrible these days. Ive made a few posts in the past regarding connectivity issues and it always gets marked as resolved, Its fine for a couple weeks then goes back to normal. I dont know what's been happening :I Ive realized this as well. Yesterday Eco is near unplayable and I had to reload my alt in like 4 times
Only four times? Wow you must have been servers BFF that day lmao, 4 disconnects is a great day for me compared to the constant failed to connect, disconnected kicks I get like 10 times or more daily lol.
Would really love some staff input on this. Such as "We're aware of the issues", "We're aware of the cause", "We're looking at ways to resolve it",...... The sort of feedback you would get from any other service provider for any other service.
Cheers mate. I’m not expecting a quick fix as quick fixes often don’t last long term or they come with major down sides. Anything would be appreciated.
Unfortunately there is no easy fix for this as most people probably expect. Before there were still some un-optimized plugins or obvious limitations left to improve the performance however now 98% of the usage is the server implementation itself and a bunch of smaller things adding up. As already mentioned the standard server implementation (and all regular "forks") scales vertically (and on top of that is primarily operating on a single main thread) and the server is already running on the best hardware the hoster has to offer. If we don't want to lower the max slots/introduce more and more limitations the only long term solution is to switch to a different server solution (regional threading or mini servers) which is however no easy task and extremely time consuming especially since those systems break pretty much all existing systems we have and existing solutions are mostly unfinished, unsafe & unstable. Regarding the disconnects we are planning to switch our DDoS protection provider in a while which should help with that, once we switched you should also be able to play on Windows 10 BE.
Dexuby, the long term solution, as you said would be time consuming and no doubt costly which make me wonder if the $1300 or so given monthly to top voters, as generous as it is, wouldn’t be better spent on this long term solution? The top ten voters should still be credited for their efforts as they always have been but there is an additional $1000 per month rewarded. I know that it wouldn’t directly translate into an extra $1000 monthly income because those players might not otherwise buy anything but even if it was half that, it would go some way to paying for upgrades and developers.
I think an issue there would be that tip voter giftcards for the skyblock store, aren't really actual money. It's just saying like, here have some free in game stuff for voting well. The concept fo your idea is there, but at that point it's better to just introduce a new rank, especially for economy, where players pay a bit more than the servers upkeep rather than crew keeping our top voter giftcards that don't translate to irl money
Would probably damage the server more than it'd help and 50% is very optimistic. While it surely is costly I'm not too sure if the funding is the biggest problem here, mostly time and having to wait on others because multiple people are involved - this isn't a pure development effort. Projects like this are also long term investments because they don't really generate more income but cost a lot of money. We also cannot fully focus on such a long term solution because the server would no longer receive any updates in that case.
Big Thanks to Dex and Luka for addressing our concerns and issues. I hope that there will be better times coming for us.
