Drop Party of Easter 2022 just happened and as many have pointed out, there are a lot of people there that simply don't play otherwise. There were even a few alts that were detected because they had similar names. I'm not saying the event is rigged or anything but for a good amount of people it hurts to put a lot of time into this server and then spend 1 1/2 hours at these big events and come out of it with nothing. Meanwhile others who were lucky enough to get a drop will spam the chat looking to sell their head and then disconnect for another 6 months. I wanted to come up with a solution, and this thread will basically be a pitch presenting my idea. Keep in mind this is just a concept so it can be implemented many different ways. ----------------------- Event Tokens -----------------------What are they? Event tokens are an intangible currency, kind of like /balance on economy but separate, and whole numbers. What do they do? Players can use the event tokens that they've acquired from the main servers on the event server. Each token acts like a raffle ticket, and the players can decide to allocate their tokens to the server of their choosing. How do I get them? Everyone receives a certain amount of event tokens at the start of a drop party, but also from Vote parties Crates Voting Claiming /daily What are the pros of event tokens? Players are rewarded for playing and incentivized to play on the server, the most active ones will have the most event tokens and thus the biggest chance of winning. This system allows staff to add incentives to participating in any aspect of the server. Maybe its Classic appreciation day and staff gives out 100 event tokens or something. There might be new ideas for events in the future and bam, now staff has tokens that they can use to enhance the event. Players can allocate the amount of event tokens they want. Maybe they really want a DP head on economy, or maybe they could go either way but think that less people will put their tokens into economy. Maybe they want to have a chance of winning on every drop and decide to split their tokens between both servers. Maybe they don't like Easter and would rather have a better chance at the Christmas heads. Players can't abuse the system by stockpiling event tokens because no matter how much they use, they can only win one head per event. Players are actually incentivized not to stockpile because using too much is more than likely to be overkill. What are the cons of event tokens? Players would be incentivized to have their alts online, 2 on each server, to get more event tokens. Even though there's a one account limit, they can stockpile on the 3 accounts they cant use. If this is a big enough issue just remove the vote party event tokens, since everything else is active. I would say this wouldn't change much, as if people really want DP heads they should be doing the same thing, except just farming for grass or $ to just buy them after the fact. Implementation of such a system would take a bit of effort but we've seen such good work from Dexuby recently that I have no doubt in this server's ability to implement it. I am excited to hear the response to this idea and am open to criticism, I just want everyone to be having the most fun! Happy Easter everyone
i like the idea but it'll just get farmed and I think dp events should really just be random and not rewards
This genuinely sounds less fair than random number generator + mods checking for alts. Like...if people who are wealthy on either server can simply *buy* themselves a guaranteed head each time, that's not a good system lol. Also I don't think there were that many known alts that won. I think maybe 2? Unknown alts I can't speak to because...they are unknown.
You can call it buying but if the currency is basically playtime, I don't see the issue. And nothing is guaranteed, it's just better chances for people that play more, which I think is the most fair.
This was my first proposal except I wanted the chance to scale with playtime, but I'm starting to understand that people have different schedules and are not able to put in a bunch of playtime. So I like your idea of just a cutoff where everyone that makes it is completely even.
1. Alot of effort for a single developer who I imagine has a bit on his plate 2. you can have 6 accounts online btw, sb 4, eco 2. 3. I'm not quite sure man, myself and a few others afk almost 24/7.... including alts, I don't see why that makes me more suitable for a dp head than some 14 year old kid whose parents may not allow him to run his game overnight... yet I would benefit since I am online for most vote parties etc, the way you have visualized this concept is basically turn the server into an afk fest with as many accounts as possible...
Skyblock Official Site | Skyblock Check out this thread, I gave my own response at the very bottom explaining how the drop parties should involve the playtime. Basically you should just have a certain amount of playtime to get access to the events server
Simpler and more reasonable, a minimum may seem acceptable, but the exact quantity should not impact the chances
I agree, however it must be ensured that whatever plugin does this is error free. It would be greatly unfair for it to glitch and not allow someone to the dp or not take them into account solely due to an error tracking their playtime I say this cause the playtime tracker is bonkers (or at least it used to be? idk I just remember it going backwards and skipping around and doing whatever it wants)
It’s a drop party it’s meant to be random. Not every little things needs improved or enhanced to fit an individual criteria of what should and shouldn’t be. I agree that it would be nice to have a chance to win every DP head but that’s simply just not how it works. This would not only tank the rare collecting community but it would also tank the economy of the heads themselves. I don’t like this idea there is a reason why rares are considered rare. That reason is because not everyone gets one. Pretty simple but I guess that needs explained. Alts are a problem though but there is nothing you can do about that given people use VPNs but staff have been doing a lot better about cracking down on alt users especially during the head hunt event.
Whilst I respect the idea to shake off or switch on the people we only see 3 times a year, I think your suggestions not only limit those inactive but also new players. A new player should be just as entitled to join as a more established player. That's the reason for my no support.
Exactly, I’d consider myself an active player I play maybe 2 hrs a week (it’s all I have time for). Seems weird to punish a player like me for having a busy life outside of games.
I mentioned several times throughout the drop party that I thought the design around giving 200 items (100 for each server) to 300 people was extremely questionable. Many people sat at their computers for two hours on the server to get nothing, when at the very least we would have gotten several voter keys and some grass blocks. Given this was my first drop party, I will not be participating in future drop parties unless the format changes. What a waste of time, even 24 hours later. The goal of these events should be to encourage everyone to get on and be active at one time, and I fail to see where sitting in a lobby for a couple hours while receiving nothing encourages players to get on and celebrate. Yes, I'm salty I made the decision to get on for it, however that mistake will not be made again.
Agree DP's are a waste of time and give no incentive for players to become active. Just a way for crew to rack up some cash by people who care about these pointless heads buying some gift cards to trade for a 'rare'. Also nice profile pic
touché , glad I'm not the only one who sees it this way. There's a better way than a lottery for a two hour event, who am I to design (I can't even figure out how to 'agree' or 'disagree' to a post)?
If it’s based on playtime for example the same AFK accounts would win everytime. If it’s based on how many days since you’d joined the server, again we are pushing out new players we want to keep in. Who misses seeing an old friend come back to spend the dp with?(not me) I think this way of getting round one issue, may cause a lot more unequal differences. I like the randomness, the element of surprise, no one can guess who wins. Rather than trying to bring in a new system, why not perfect the current one. Off on a side note but relevant, Staff work our bums off at the dp and the hunt. For example yesterday; I was on most the day working on alts that ignored/had not seen our request of no alts. Same for the DP, a lot of us were doing so, for every winner we check alts and communicate with Crew to reroll. As a team we keep this as fair as we can and we will always try our best to. I am going to go no support for now, I wouldn’t hate this idea if it were introduced FOR drop parties but I also don’t think it’s what we need
