Here is my quadruple cobblestone generator. If there is no glitches, im sure its 100% effiecient. How it works: Basically you have to walk around in circles (technically squares) mining the cobble. As you walk through what your mining, you pick it up. So it has very high efficiency, if not 100%. Plus, it's faster than mining in the water. The lava is in the center, under the half stone slab(the slab is there so I don't step on lava and lose all my stuff) under the chest. I always store all my cobble and picks in my chest so if I run out, I just grab another pick and keep going. When I'm done, i put the cobble in the chest. It is a fast way of earning cobble.

There are much better ways of making cobble stone generators that don't deal with redstone. There is one way that will ensure you get 100% yield. Ugh I refuse to sign on to minecraft to show you. Must get off. Must study.

Although this is a great basic design nonetheless so don't get me wrong.

Mine doesnt use any redstone, it just flows in a way that allows you to make a mob trap and a cobblestone generator

I have recently invented a cobble generator (not sure if already done, but it was from my mind)
Instead of using cobble on the outside, or a similar substance, I use cobblestone slabs, as it is resource-efficient and also you can see what is going on. It can be used as a double generator if you have 2 blocks of lava. The setup is as shown:

    H - Half slab w - Water F - Water Flow L - Lava M - Lava Flow A - Air
    X - Cobblestone Generate Area S - Standing Area
    1st Layer
    A A A A S A A
    A H H F F H A
    A H H F F H A
    A A A A S A A

    2nd Layer
    A H H H A H A
    H w F F X L A
    H w F F X M A
    A H H H A H A

    3rd Layer
    A A A A A A A
    A H H H A H A
    A H H H A H A
    A A A A A A A

For me, this has worked very well on singleplayer (though not so great on multiplayer) and is somewhat yeilding.
Anyway, thanks for listening to me,

Sorry, forgot I had a texture pack on.
Anyway, the weird-looking stuff is cobble.

    *Changes vote*

    Not me...

Anyway, I think the only problem with this is the direction.

It may sound stupid, but depending on which direction you mine the generator, the longer it takes for the cobble to respawn.

For example, on skyblock.org we have a cobble generator which takes 1 second to respawn facing north, while it only takes .5 second facing east. (While mining)

My cobble generator is 100% and gives me about 2 stacks per minute. :)
Thank the SkyBlock Gods for pistons.

In the math matrix of the world, the center of blocks is not the center. Its the f1/f2 corner, which is the NW corner, and not only can direction make a difference as you say, but also the efficiency % of blocks lost to going into lava.

Yes, that is near the max rate possible with a Eff 3 diamond pick :)
I use a vertical output quad quad (16 total stacks being produced), and cannot keep up even with the best pick when TPS is high. At low TPS, rates only slightly drop, due to need for altering pick angle in a circle around a central stand.

The linear design is also good, and requires less attention at the expense of slower output at low TPS.

For those that have no clue, these cobble gens we are talking about have no exposed lava, and used pistons and redstone to create streams of cobblestone.

Yeah, mine is a vertical output as well. I have 2 generators that do 4 columns each. I don't leave them running when I mine though. I let one build up, then turn it off, mine that while the other builds up, and so on.

I made a smooth stone generator, they say that its faster to mine then cobblestone.. I dont know if thats true.
