I bought spawn eggs for sheep using grass at the trade station, and bred the two sheep, and when i went to check on the progress, a baby and adult sheep were missing. I thought they despawned due to distance, while my mooshrooms and chickens were fine. (i had the same issues with two chickens before) I bought two more eggs, and immediately after spawning, they despawned right before my eyes. Is there any way to fix it?

Update: killed around 12 mooshrooms (half of my herd) as i read on another (old) thread mob capacity could be the issue; gonna try respawning the sheep in a few days

update to update: just oped mc up and found another sheep a few blocks away, it probably was a glitch that lead to the mobs becoming invisible. I had (probably still have, just buried on a usb) a creative world where that would happen to horses often.

and... i just sheared them, tried to move them and they glitched out again lol
I'm convinced i got haunted sheep

Have you checked if any of the animals have a number above their head? They may have stacked/fused into one. You can try nametagging them every time you spawn one and see if they still disappear. Also check the minecraft version you're playing, 1.12.2 works best for this server; any newer version may be buggy.

It appears that your help thread has been answered however I will summarise some things surrounding mobs before closing this thread :)

    1. Animals do stack, as do hostile mobs too
    2. You can name tag them to stop them stacking and despawning
    3. You can use a spawner or spawn eggs to generate mobs
    4. If untamed / unnamed mobs are left alone in an unloaded chunk they can possibly despawn or stack with fresh new mobs.
    5. There is a hostile & passive mob limit, each type of mob has its own.
    6. Hostile mobs have a shared global spawn rate if spawned naturally.
    7. AI affects mobs differently depending on how they were bought into the world.

For the most efficient mob method is the usage of spawners :)

I will close this thread now but please feel free to reach out if you require further assistance!
