Shops are essential catalysts in player trading. If you have a small shop it's nice and easy to maintain and restock. However if you have a really big one, it can be exhausting to regularly examine every chest to see if it has made any sales, and if you potentially need to restock.

Here's an example of a big one:

I'm getting tired just looking at it!

    What can be done?

If checking and restocking shops is in your daily routine, a quick and easy indicator to help you find the chests that need attention will definitely help out. Here's something I made. A light turns on upon a shop transaction (before & after):

Every block to be placed is visible here! For elaboration, the chest in the back is part of a CUD (comparator update detector) switch and is purely meant for its redstone functionality and is thus just a normal chest. The chest in the front is a chest shop. Note that underneath this chest shop there is no block. If you do wish to fill that up make sure it's not a full block (e.g. you can place stair or slab).

A light is there to indicate whether a transaction was made after your last check-up. It's on if so, otherwise off. A shop owner can check the chest, see if everything's all right, and reset the light by pressing the button shown in the image. Here's an image with more details:

As the image suggests, this module can be tiled and still work reliably. But be sure to interchange the chests with normal and trapped ones (both the chest shop and CUD chest)!
See, all of the redstone and blocks are copied and put side by side. Now, I added a line of redstone on top of the pistons. With this you can reset the lights of a bunch of shops at once. Or even the entire shop, just one press!

One last variant is a double chest as your shop. Not entirely sure if this one is bug proof as there may be some issues with locational placement of chests (let me know if you face issues). It follows a very similar route except one of the redstone dusts is a solid block:

I hope this was an interesting read, and that it's useful to you! If you want to know more about this idea just reach out and I'll be happy to respond ^-^ (credits to someone in the community asking for this)

Most lighting systems to date only indicate how full a chest is. They are more an indication to the buyer. This is different in that it indicates any sale and is mostly for the seller.

Regarding the design, The button might clash with the item display. Drogo knows you can play around and have the item display with a sign in this position. It might be the same with the button?

Totally missed that! Just checked and yes, you can still create a shop when a button is in the way.

And if you were concerned with the item display obstructing your reach to the button:

i get tired of looking at small islands looking there is nothing to do and why even have it
    here is an example

here is how to improve your island
you can make a shop, big ones are the best there are so cool to look at and run around
or make a nice looking island that others can have fun at

For those wondering why the thread has had majority of the content removed it is primarily due to the unnecessary arguments and comments that took place on this guide.

It is fine to have an opinion but the way it is expressed needs to be respectful and done in the right way, place and time. Instead of the thread being the place the issue is discussed, it would be good to approach it privately with the involved parties and a staff member.

Thank you to those who were kind enough to try help the situation in a respectful manner. Apologises for having to take this action.

The thread will need to continue on topic from now on.
