I find it stupid that we cannot suggest a rule addition, it would make such a big difference to so many. Also I wish to point out that staff have before investigated me for intellectual property theft (same thing as mapart reselling) which is not against the rules, but they asked me to show them how a certain redstone item was made as someone on the server (won’t say who) had thought we had stolen it from them. (We hadn’t) but this staff member quite happily assisted them around my island looking through this build to determine if I had stolen it. Staff won’t assist us on the same issue, but the person who thought we had stolen from them got a different treatment.
Maparts are an incredibly fun feature on the server and in Minecraft in general but obviously now they are creating big issues. Just remember the higher-ups have the ability to take this feature from us at any time if it does cause problems. Ultimately, this could be for the better, or it could be for the worst. But for now the community needs to stay strong and united and uphold your ethical and moral values relating to others work and respecting their work. If you have a blatant message that tells someone not to resell your work/art at all costs, and they do, and perhaps continue to sell it after you have politely asked the player to abide, (even in extreme cases like yours, it sounds like JJ where players start verbally abusing in chat) it is actually not following one of the main rules on the server which is to treat every single player with respect, no matter who they are, how many bans they have had or what has occurred in the past.
that is probably the least helpful thing I heard all month. (just to clarify I have nothing wrong with your post, its about the mod response) if anything all thats doing is alienating the players that do make map arts on the server and encouraging to not make more because players are just going to rip it and make grass off their hard work. I can understand staff members having their own bias, I've worked on staff teams before for a couple very large streamer discord servers, and mod bias and staff bias will always be a thing. the only time it actually becomes a problem that needs to be addressed is when the community is blatantly calling it out and asking for their help when its something they cant resolve on their own. (i.e. shunning people)
Guess we cant turn back time, i served the ban reluctantly. And came back with the understading that theres nothing i can do about it. I get knocked down but i get up again
the thing is that if it wasnt for people challenging that rule, sand trade wouldve never been changed. (I know it wasnt a rule addition, but it was a rule that was spoken up about and overruled) in a perfect world I think this would work, but sadly as much as I love it, its not the reality of the server and I hate to say that. There's just too many young players on the server that dont really have the same grasp on it as some more of the long time players do, and some people just dont care and will do it regardless.
I feel like the reason this isn't a rule is because of the possibility of framing someone easily - say someone sells a mapart, doesn't answer the "can I resale" question and has a sign ploted just outside a player's view and then says "hurr durr your reselling my unresellable mapart I'm gonna report and ban you now!" While this - for the majority of instances - won't happen, I feel like there may be people who don't like a known player and wants said player to be banned or be unable to continue playing on the server, as has happened before. Not going to mention names.
if that would become a problem then maybe just have players who make map art make a book they sign that allows the map art to be resold by said player who buys the map art. when you hover over a book it will tell you one of three things; if that book is the original copy, if its a copy of the original, or if its a copy of a copy. here's an idea, and a good way to find out if someone is reselling illegally. If someone is selling a map art they dont want resold, then all they have to do is sell it, and thats it. if someone wants to resell that map art, they talk to the map art owner about getting a book signed by the map art creator that's a 'copy of original' book stating that they willingly gave that person the book and are allowing them to resell their art. Now, if someone is suspected of selling that artwork illegally, then the mods are called, the reseller would give them the book so the mods can verify that they are allowed to resell it. (ex. if the book is a 'copy of original' and states in the book that they are allowing the player to resell then the reseller is fine, if the mods see its a 'copy of a copy' [meaning that the 'copy of original' was copied by a player who is not the creator of the map art] or the mods see that they have no book to present at all, then the mods know to punish said player)
Like book & quills. That's a cool idea Edit: I realise now I originally misread this. Why not just give copies of copies so they cannot be copied and redistrubuted? Also I have a suggestion that essentially keeps this on the map itself.
you cant forge book signatures, and if someone tries to copy a 'copy of original' then those copies will be labeled as 'copy of copy'
Hey thanks for being so kind and letting me know but me and skyguygamer are working together and I am most certainly sure he isnt reselling my art as we had an agreement that we both only sell our own designs and I think with buying options he means that he most likely redirects them to my island.
Would it be ok to re-sell map arts that are no longer being sold(Unless it's some exclusive thing)? Also if the player no longer plays, is it ok to re-sell it? I'm just curious because I kind of want to see some older map arts in the economy again, since a lot of players have quit.
I can see where youre coming from, but there are a lot of players who just take very large breaks from the server, and if there is a player who doesnt play on the server there isnt really a direct way to contact them (unless through discord or something). I really struggle to think that people wouldnt be upset with that. I know for me personally I wouldnt want to have my maps sold if I left the server, and only have them be in the ownership of those who I gave or sold it to. And I also know that back when I played (with a lot of people who dont play on the server anymore), map arts were more scarce, and there were many people who never distributed their map arts to anyone else but close players to them because they didnt want those maps that they made redistributed. So openly denying their choice because they havent been on the server in a long time is kinda just really sh*tty but thats just my pov on it
You got muted for calling me an old Dutch bag and dragging me into a situation I had no knowledge of. Then came on your alt to tell me how you felt about the mute, that's when you got banned.
I haven’t read through all 6 pages on this thread, so excuse me if this has been said before. I felt that the main point of the thread was just to not resell map art, but it’s ended up with people’s names being brought up and then those people who have resold being dragged all over the thread. The point was fine until people started being named, that was when I wasn’t able to take the thread seriously anymore, I’m unsure if it’s been the same for others. :/ I think it’s fine to want to be recognised for your work, but it’s unlikely that reselling will become against the rules, and it’s probably better that way anyway.
