if you created the nametag and put it on a mob the hacked characters would crash the server

 

maybe something like 2b's ban books idk

those arent hacked items just lots of legit data stuffed into a block

 

i see what youre saying, but you cant really put the data in bc book and quills crash for some people when editing them

 

that makes no sense, why can't someone edit a book?

 

i dont know, it crashes their game when removing text from it, im not sure why that happens

 

Banbooks have been patched by Paper for more than a year now - it was the main reason most servers switched to Paper from normal Spigot in the first place. I'm fairly certain this patch is about was Caleb was talking about, aka Nametag crashing, but we can't be certain

I'm fairly certain since it's now blocking invalid packets it's book crashing that was patched - because what the book crash does is send loaded Book&Quill packets to the server - without even needing to have a book and quill in your inventory - and these packets are hunked by the server. However, the book crash doesn't crash servers, it drops anywhere from 2 to 200 people from a server at any given time.
