Nursing school and studying on a daily has taken its toll on my physical health, I've gained some weight and it sucks! Although I'm confident and love myself despite whatever weight I am, I do not like how bad my energy levels have been affected. I'm a regular gym goer and love exercising so I'm not entirely clueless as to workout routines, but the amount of weight that I've gained in a short period and the amount that I just need to have my head in the books has got me intimidated. :cri: Any other gym rats out there? What do you guys suggest someone who has an intense academic program should do to get back into shape? What kinda workouts should I do to start off?
Have you tried maybe studying at the gym or listening to an audiobook? I mean it might not be the best but it’s something I probably would do
I actually plan on doing that LOL, having my notebook propped up on the treadmill or bike machine! About the audiobooks, I'll have to look into that as I don't think my textbooks would have an audiobook but I'll try. I also might watch some youtube videos related to my classes too.
Woop woop! During my recent break from school, I basically lived at the gym. Now that classes have resumed, I find it hard to keep up. I don’t study at the gym, I usually just listen to music, and sometimes even watch netflix. It’s really personal. You could go on saturdays, like I do since I usually have at least two hours free every Saturday. And, on weekdays, you just need to say which days suit you the best. As for the exercises, you should ask a coach or personal trainer. You should start with the basics, anyway. Treadmills, elliptical bikes, sit-ups, maybe even some weights. Of course, don’t exceed your limits!
I need to get back into a gym and start working out omg. Last time I worked out was more than a year ago before I graduated high school ;-; I think I lost some of my muscles tbh. I miss the days when I had to work out as my P.E. class, it was a great way to get my blood being pumped through me before I continued on with my other classes
Well, I'm not a student, but I work 40+ hours a week. Does that count? I find I have to pretty much put 3-4 workouts on the schedule for the week and force myself to do them even though I don't feel like it at the time. I live about 2 miles from the gym, so I will often run there, complete a circuit of strength exercises 2-3 times, then run home. Takes about 1.5 hours only. Sometimes I just go to the park instead. I jog there, complete push ups, dips, pullups, squats, lunges, etc using the play equipment as needed and run back home. The hardest part is always nutrition though... It takes like 5 seconds to eat/drink 500 cal. and then 30-45 mins to run it off. If i'm not eating not eating clean (and less than I want to) forget about it, the weight's not leaving, lol. Good luck and good for you not letting the schedule and the complacency get the best of you!
Weekends are most def gonna be used for workouts at least 1 or 2 hours, depending on how much I need to study but I think weekdays I could do probs 2 or 3 days! I think cardio will help me get used to having my HR up again so that when I go into weights, at least my muscles will be somewhat ready for the toll. Just gotta start a lighter than my max and work my way back up again. I’m sure you’ll be able to get back into it if you want! It just depends on what works for you! At home workouts are fun, but they are limited as I assume you don’t have all the equipment that you may want. Pilates are good as they have you use your body weight to activate your muscles! Even plain cardio like running and walking is a good start! Oof I love strength circuits but boy do they kill me! But I think after a good amount of time of building my muscle back up I should be able to get back into them! But you are most def right about nutrition. Fitness and progress in physical health is 20% exercise and 80% nutrition. Eating unhealthy is too easy when it’s accessible but I’m good at self control, especially when I’m working out cause I want to have the proper fuel!
Sounds like you're ready to do this!! If I've been off my routine for awhile I just use small weights or body weight for the circuits for a week or two to ease the muscles back into condition. You'll know when it's time to move the weight back up
The free initial training session was rough  but i know i'll get back on my game. Also, how could I forget... WHERE'S MY BOOTY GANG AT??!!!??!?!?!!?! CMON GLUTES CMON HAMMIES CMON QUADS! YOU BETTER GET ON THAT LEG PRESS
I usually listen to music at the gym, find it impossible to study there lmao. I do 5 workout every week 2 hours each with 20 min starting cardio.
I’ve always wondered how people can do 2 hours per session.... I’m always told that 1 hour is enough?
I think it depends on the person, what exercises you do and how long you’ve been working out. When I first started, I did 30mins, and now I usually do 1:30/2
I usually workout 2 body parts each day at the gym and finish with 15-20 minutes of cardio, takes me about an hour which is a right amount.
