Back in the day Which I mean 2012 we had 46 ish moderators and people on the staff team.

Thats a lot... Compared to now we have 17 a few which almost never come online. i wont say names for obvious reasons but i get that the player base is smaller now then it was 7 years ago but still maybe 28 staff would be nice especially because well were coming back... on skyblock.net we have 140+ players on sometime and thats amazing! but a few mods for every 10 isnt going to cut it and there is still times where there is NO mods on period. we have to change that since people need help around the clock

old staff team list Skyblock Directory - Servers, Sites & Staff | Skyblock Forums

P.S im not making this to up my chances of staff in anyway Im just making it because we need a bigger staff team

Neutral, having more than 46 moderators is way too much, In the staff application category, there are only 9 staff applications.

While having more staff members is a very logical conclusion that is often jumped to by players, and it may be able to help fix the issue of there being long periods of time with no staff members online, I personally do not believe that this would be the best decision for the server, as it would create more problems than it would solve.

While some aspects of being a staff member can be easily learned, with time, such as logblock commands or forums moderation skills, staff members are also expected to be able to effectively communicate with players, as well as other staff members, in an appropriate manner, and also have a genuine interest in helping out the server. This is why we only accept players that have an open application, as that indicates that they have put thought into their decision, and are motivated enough to write a formal application, highlighting their strengths, and explaining why they believe they would be a good fit.

The ability to work effectively, not only by yourself, but with the team as a whole as well, is extremely important, and for that reason, we can't simply add a large amount of players to the team, just to raise the total number of staff members on the team. It is much better for the server to have a smaller team of more effective staff members that are able to better carry out their responsibilities, and have proven themselves capable of handling the position, even if they are only able to be consistently active for a limited amount of time, rather than a larger team of ineffective staff members that were promoted not because of their skills, but only because we want to increase the amount of members on the team.

We are always looking for players that are eager to help out, and have consistently proven that they would be able to effectively carry out the responsibilities. With that being said, we cannot allow factors such as the relatively small size of the current team, when compared with the staff team a few years ago, to lead to lower expectations. I believe that Kerahna summarized this idea quite nicely with the following statement:

We are always on the lookout for players who have the discipline and maturity to be a good moderator :) Unfortunately we have no control over when staff decide to leave, but we cannot allow a deficiency of staff members lead to a lowering of standards. Players are always welcome to file reports and issues in the forum if they aren't able to find a staff member online!

While it would definitely be beneficial to have more staff members on the team, it is also important to consider the possible consequences. Ideally, we would have a much larger pool of applicants, which would most likely lead to a significantly larger staff team, without the need to lower our standards; however, the server is not large enough for this to happen, as the majority of players have no interest in the position, either due to the fact that they would rather just play the game and not have to worry about anything else, or that they just don't want the extra responsibility, especially if they are quite busy in real life.

Overall, there is nothing inherently wrong with increasing the amount of staff members on the team; however, it is not something that we will be able to quickly achieve, as we have no control over when staff members choose to leave, and cannot let those situations influence our standards or choices regarding promotions. We must be as close to 100% sure as possible that all new promotions are prepared to take on the extra responsibility, even if that means being more selective when choosing from the pool of applications, and promoting players less frequently.

I either think we would need more staff member or more requirements how much you need to be active when you are staff (ofc this won't work all the time tho) but just some more specific rules for the staff members would probably make them more active.

No support, the server isn’t nearly big enough to need so many staff members. I agree, I think having a mod on at most times would be good, but that’s down to staff activity rather than just having a massive team.

To be perfectly honest, I do wish for more than one promotion at a time. I think the long waits can discourage people who feel they will never get a chance. Yet it also is a thing that applicants should be willing to wait for because helping people should be something you want to do, not feel you have to do to impress the managers.

Adding more staff is fine but it will happen slowly over time. It won't be done all at once.
There is more complexity to moderating with three servers and more commands to learn that its wise not to dump a whole lot of staff in the team only to be kicked the crap out of by impatient and toxic players who think staff are ready to go within a day and try to target new staff.

It would be nice to feel less guilty about taking time away but at the same time I understand things have been like this for a reason and eventually the team will get bigger.

I agree with his unsurprisingly long essay
While of course it would be nicer to have more staff, promoting people just for the sake of it would be a terrible idea. I'm sure there are good applicants out there, but quality is more important than quantity

To clear some things up i dont want us to have 46 mods again i just think more mods would be great like maybe 28 or something

I just find your specific number for mods very weird.

There are not that many applicants, and most of the current ones are not ready anyway.

    We need 49.1092 mods

    got that one right XD

in my opinion, we need more staff that are dedicated and who care about the server. from my experiences we don't have many these days which have those traits.

This exactly. The solution isn't more moderators, it's active moderators.

Perhaps more moderators and they have to pick them with varying timezones or else sometimes there will be all mods on and then sometimes none

really everything leads back to forums if we dont advertise forums we dont get active forum members without active forum members no staff applicants no staff applicants no staff no staff no rules no rules, Anarchy

Honestly, sometimes less is more. Im happy with the amount we've got, a decent handful are quite active. It would be a waste of time if 80% of the moderators were inactive

    Support.

I agree there should be some more mods, but of anything we need active mods over anyone else. Most things I would say are already listed above, but I do feel we need a couple more mods due to there always being a trouble maker or two online.

If I'm being honest, more staff anywhere would generally be more helpful than harmful in retrospect, but this isn't something that can be completely enacted by a single server-gameplay suggestion as you're requesting to change the behind-the-scenes dynamics a bit.

If it were up to me, I'd choose to increase the pool of applicants so that way there is a lot more opportunity to seek and promote [more] qualified applicants. As Michael said, the staff team is always looking for new members, it just really would depend on who is applying, really.

I don't particularly have a definite stance so I'll say neutral.

There’s only 1 mod that’s pretty much always active. Massive respect to you Kai.
There’s like 8 that play daily.
But seriously. Some mods are very inactive and are being selfish taking up a place in the staff
