We can summon withers?

I was looking around in KbrickGold's island, then I noticed there is a wither inside the cathedral, I thought it wasn't possible to summon a wither.

 

Leeeroieee can u give us a explanation kinda intreged too

 

Withers can be crafted, but it's a bit wasteful to do so, since they require three wither skeleton heads and only drop soul sand when you kill them.

 

In the crafting table or build the wither?

 

obviously in on the ground but it would be cool to make a wither pop up after you craft one in a crafting table

 

Kbrick said he can't put nametags on withers, but why?

 

I don't think Minecraft lets you name withers.

 

You can actually + theres a server with bunch of named withers. (In 1.12.2)

 

Is the AI removed from the withers?

I don't think so.

They cannot damage terrain. They will still try to kill any nearby players or mobs, though. Hopefully the rarity and value of the wither skeleton heads needed to make them with will keep them from becoming an issue, otherwise we'll have to prevent them from spawning.

 

there goes my plan for fully automating my tree farm.

 

I've summoned a wither once, I do not recommend it. People will try to kill it, and there's nothing you can do. Even if they are hidden, players with hacks can glitch into it and kill it. They do not damage blocks, but they do damage you (unless you have /god). You can name them.

 

Why wasn't this in the update log or annoucements then?

That was fungamer333 's fault! But it was worth it, I got my 3 heads back!

I think it was always this way, but it took long until I first tried it.
