I suggest there should be a little notification thing telling you if a private message you sent was read or unread, something like this

the r stands for read meaning the participant has seen your message
and u means they have not read your message.
If you are having a conversation with more then one person it could be something like this

the s means that person is the last one to send the message, but that would be a bit obvious.

Couldnt do the original idea becasue there can be multiple users in each conversation so my idea was this

and since its already coded into the database when messages are read it was easy to implement
